US 93 paving and blasting work pushes project forward
January 13, 2010
PHOENIX—The Arizona Department of Transportation is making major progress on the US 93 widening project from Hoover Dam to milepost 17. This project, along with the Hoover Dam Bypass bridge project, will bring new connectivity and more efficient travel to northwestern Arizona by the end of 2010.
In order to move the project closer to completion, blasting and paving work is set to begin this week and will run through the end of March. Blasting at milepost 3 will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today. Motorists should plan for delays up to 30 minutes.
Beginning this week until the end of March, crews will pave the first section of the new southbound alignment of US 93. Paving operations will start at milepost 17 and move north through the project to milepost 10. Motorists can expect 15 minute delays when trucks deliver asphalt to the project site.
Crews will also pave the intersection of US 93 and Willow Beach Road beginning this week until Jan. 22. Flaggers will be present during daytime hours to direct motorists around the intersection while crews complete the work.
The Motorist Assist Patrol (MAP) will be in operation along US 93 from mileposts 2 to 17 to offer assistance to stranded motorists by providing fuel, water or even changing a tire. The MAP truck, equipped with spotlights and amber lights on the roof, will operate from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Thursdays through Mondays.
ADOT urges drivers to use caution, obey the posted speed limits, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
While ADOT strives to inform the public about planned roadway restrictions, there are times when unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur during complex construction projects. ADOT appreciates the public’s patience as these improvements take place. For up-to-date project and weather-related information, please dial 5-1-1 or log onto www.azdot.gov.
