Highway Enhancements for Safety (HES) Team
The Highway Enhancements for Safety (HES) Team investigates and recommend improvements and countermeasures for traffic related problems on the state highways. The team performs the following tasks:
- Identifies and recommends countermeasures to reduce accidents frequency and/or severity at locations with perceived accident problems
- Provides expertise in traffic problem resolution
- Focal point of statewide Safety Management System
Road Safety Audits/Road Safety Assessments
The RSA program will conduct Road Safety assessments on state, local and tribal road facilities. An RSA is defined as a formal examination of user safety of a future or existing roadway by an independent multidisciplinary audit team, which includes qualified experienced members.
Arizona Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP)
The Arizona Strategic Highway Safety Plan has been developed through a data-driven collaborative approach between Arizona's many safety partners. The SHSP is a comprehensive statewide safety strategy document that will guide our existing safety planning and programming processes, that will facilitate the implementation of the recommended safety strategies and countermeasures through our existing plans and programs, and that can be used to modify our current planning processes over time to adopt and institutionalize the new SHSP safety culture.
Arizona Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) Manual
The specific purpose of the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) is to achieve
a significant reduction in traffic fatalities and serious injuries on public roads. This is to
be accomplished through the development and implementation of the Strategic
Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) which is a statewide-coordinated safety plan that provides
a comprehensive framework for reducing highway fatalities and serious injuries on all
public roads. SHSP is intended to identify the State's key safety needs and guide HSIP
investment decisions.
